Almonds

Almonds... who knew?
I’ve always known almonds were a healthy snack, but I had no idea how beneficial they can be during perimenopause.

I’m a big believer in supporting my hormones and overall health through nutrition first whenever possible. Food isn’t magic, and sometimes medications are necessary, but I’m always looking for simple, natural ways to give my body the nutrients it needs.

When I started researching almonds, I was amazed that something so small could have such a big impact.

One of the biggest benefits that stood out to me was blood sugar regulation.

Many women in perimenopause (myself included) struggle with insulin resistance—even when we’re eating a healthy diet. Hormonal changes can make our bodies less sensitive to insulin, which can lead to blood sugar spikes, increased cravings, stubborn weight gain around the middle, and energy crashes.

🥜 Eating a small handful of almonds before a meal may help slow the rise in blood sugar and improve insulin sensitivity.

That’s because almonds are packed with:
✨ Healthy fats
✨ Plant protein
✨ Fiber

Together, these nutrients slow the digestion of carbohydrates, helping reduce blood sugar spikes and keeping you fuller longer.

But that’s not all...

Almonds are also rich in:
🤎 Vitamin E – an antioxidant that supports healthy skin and brain function.
🤎 Magnesium – about 76–80 mg per ounce, which supports muscle function, sleep, mood, and hundreds of other processes in the body.
🤎 Calcium and phosphorus – important for maintaining strong bones, especially as estrogen declines during perimenopause.
🤎 Heart-healthy fats – which support cardiovascular health and healthy cholesterol levels.

I’ve started making it a habit to eat a small handful of almonds before meals or in the evening as a snack. It’s a simple change that supports blood sugar, helps keep me satisfied, and gives my body nutrients that are especially important during this season of life.

Sometimes the biggest improvements come from the smallest habits.

Do you eat almonds regularly? I’d love to hear your favorite way to enjoy them!
